“Sometimes you need something that is specifically…. YOU!”

~Britt Hallowell

Do you create custom paintings?

The answer is a big YES! I love creating artwork that is specific to your needs — that when you see it you’ll know it is YOUR artwork imagined and brought to life.

How does the process work?

Creating a custom painting is probably easier than you think! Once you contact me, we will discuss your ideas, tastes, and size needed. Sometimes its as easy as making a similar painting to one I’ve already done but in a different size or color. Sometimes we start from scratch and create something brand new!

I try to respond very quickly and be very open and transparent throughout the process.

Once we determine what the painting will look like and the size, I will take a deposit. The exact amount depends on the size of the painting, but its usually around $100. Then I make your painting! Depending on the amount of other projects I have going on or traveling for shows, it might take up to a month for me to complete your painting; however, its usually closer to 2 weeks.

Once finished, I will email you pictures of your finished painting for your approval. If you are happy with it, I’ll get the painting ready for shipping and take the remaining balance. I want to make sure you love your artwork!

How much does it cost?

The price varies greatly depending on the size and effort involved in creating the painting. I DO NOT charge extra for commissions, however. I try to keep my pricing fair to both parties. You can look on my available painting page to compare sizes and prices for a general idea.

Can you do pet portraits?

Yes, but not in encaustic. For pet portraits I only work in acrylic. I have a very extensive gallery of animal paintings and I’m happy to try to capture your furry loved one in a painting. I am currently not accepting commissions of human portraits.

Can you create “in memoriam” paintings with cremated remains?

Yes. Artwork like this is especially near and dear to my heart. I fully recognize and appreciate the gravity of the situation and the honor it is to be part of preserving a loved one in such a special way. I do not take lightly being involved in this undertaking and always act out love and compassion for those who have lost their loved ones.

A small amount of ashes would be embedded in the wax, and due the archival nature of encaustic paint, protected and preserved. Encaustic paintings embedded with ashes dates back to the 1st Century and is the perfect medium for preserving cremated remains.

I will work with you closely to determine a painting that you feel represents your loved one.

I can even add in certain personal effects, such as clothing, dried flowers, necklaces, etc.

If you are interested, please contact me. And thank you in advance for considering me to be part of such a special honor.

Can I see examples of commissioned pieces?

Yes, below are some examples, but I do SO MANY custom painting (about a third of my paintings I create) there is no way to include the full scope. Here is just a snippet of the range I do.

I love doing favorite book paintings (because they are so personal to each individual), family portraits represented by animals (once I created a circus with each family member’s favorite animal acting out one of their interests) and topographical maps. I can do maps of the world, states, countries, and even made up worlds. So far I’ve created maps of Westeros, Narnia, and Middle Earth. One Westeros painting was 72” tall!

The sky is the limit!!!

You dream it…. I’ll do my best to make it!
